Plants vs. Zombies
Sometimes, a game comes along and sets a mark so deep in its genre, that the name of the game itself becomes a description of that genre.
Plants Vs. Zombies [HD], by PopCap, is sure one of those cases. There are lots of “Plants Vs. Zombies” type of games, but if you are looking for the original thing, this is your chance, because its price has dropped to zero. Totally FREE for a limited time!

In this game, you have 5 lanes. Each lane is being invaded by zombies that want to feast loudly with your brain. Your only defense, as everyone knows, is to attack them with plants!
Each plant has its own powers, and you should think strategically in order to beat the zombie waves that come at you.

You must defeat them over 50 levels, earn money, upgrade and buy power ups for your veggie army.
In addition, you can grow your own zen garden, play mini-games to relax, and get achievements in the process.
Plants Vs. Zombies is FREE for a limited time, for both iPad and iPhone. Grab it!
Harbor Master
One of the most notorious games can be downloaded free for a limited time, and I’m talking about this amazing Harbor Master [HD], by Imangi Studios!

The objective of the game is to guide the boats to their respective colored harbor, unload the cargo, and get them on their way.
If you do it correctly, congrats. If you make boats crash into each other, it’s game over.
To guide them, you will draw lines that will be used as paths to each boat. Keep in mind that different sized boats have different speeds, and often you will have more boats than harbors on-screen. It’s up to you to manage the chaos.

Also, sometimes boats will have mixed cargos, so they will need to switch harbors. This is a pain in the back, let me tell you. Crossing boats in the middle of the map is a major no-no, but what are you going to do? Just handle it.
In some maps, you also have to deal with pirates, or even sea monsters (Cthulhu, is that you?)

For excellent graphics, you may also be interested in the HD version, which is always free, due to its freemium nature. It’s the same game, but not quite.
As I said before, Harbor Master for iPhone is FREE for a limited time, and it should be already installed in your device.
UFO Hotseat
If you are familiar with the best-game-ever X-Com: Ufo Defense, stop reading this and go to the bottom of this article to start downloading. It’s free for a limited time.
Now, for those of you that never knew what really happiness is, let’s take a quick tour, shall we?
UFO Hotseat by Andrey Davydov is the best next thing after X-Com, and it is an attempt to bring X-Com to your iOS device. Well, they succeeded. And more than that, they added a little bonus: multiplayer! Whaaaaaaa?

The graphics are also improved, since the original game dates from 1993.
You are in control of an anti-alien organization, and your objective is to confront them on the field. You are given a team and weapons.
Each team member has a limited number of actions, and pretty much anything he does can be considered an action; walking, shooting, throwing a grenade… you get the picture.
So, at the beginning of each level, you must start moving your troops around, using their allowed moves (or don’t, it’s your choice). After you’re done, end the turn and it’s your opponent’s time to shine. You won’t be able to see his movements unless your troops have a direct eyesight on them.

This is an immersive addicting game, and it’s universal and free for a limited time. Don’t wait any longer!
Total Defense 3D HD
Using the tower defense concept, today you can grab for free (for limited time) this great Total Defense 3D HD by DaSuppa, for iPad.

This 3D game will get you hooked in no-time. The hostiles don’t have a fixed path to your base, so sometimes they will try to do some crazy stuff.
The game mechanics is the usual that you can find in any tower defense game type; drop turrets, defend your base from the enemy. Whenever you complete a level, you get 3 skill points to spend on bonus skills. Use those wisely.

It will run on iPads and it’s free for a limited time. Tower defense games are fun!
TowerMadness™
I bet you were missing a tower defense game around here, weren’t you?
Today you can get Tower Madness [HD] by Limbic Software for free (for a limited time).

Protect your sheep from evil aliens by setting up a perimeter defense, using the usual tower defense elements.
The enemies won’t have a defined path, so it’s up to you to build that path for them. Make it a painful one and you should be ok.
Every defense turret is an obstacle, and the aliens will try to avoid it. If you focus too much on one side of the field, the aliens will go to the other side. They’re like electricity, always going for the path with less resistance (yes, you learn physics on this site).

The airborne aliens will run over your defenses, so be sure to establish some anti air defenses all over the place.
Don’t be fooled by the lame graphics, the game is awesome and fun.
It’s free for a limited time, so stop thinking about it and install it!
Spice Bandits
What if a tower defense game didn’t have a path for the hostiles to follow?
What if your gate was on the middle of an open space?
In Spice Bandits by Chilingo that’s exactly what happens.

In this awesome title, you’ll get to build yourself the path of the enemy. How will you do it?
By placing defenses on their way. Every turret/defense you drop on the field will be seen as an obstacle to the enemies.
Be smart and create a long and painful path of destruction and doom! Yes, I said DOOM!!!

In some maps, there may be already a few obstacles, so work with it.
This game starts easy, but it doesn’t take long to get tricky.
Also, the game has a considerable amount of turret defenses, and for each one an even more considerable amount of upgrades, disposed in a tree-like structure. Choose the best path for the ultimate weapon, and use it.

Keep in mind that the enemies are smart, and if you make a path that is too hard, they will try to find alternate routes, so you better give them no options.
The game has a multiplayer mode, and you can play with up to 8 players on the same field.
Its original name was Spice Invaders, which was genius, but we can live with Spice Bandits.
Spice Bandits is free and is a no brainer.
Gem Keeper™
Oh, tower defense games, why are you so enjoyable?
And how come there are so many of you, and most usually enters one of those free for a limited time thingies?
Why, tower defense games, why?
Gem Keeper™ by NCsoft just got free for a limited time, and you’ll want to have it.

This one introduces a new concept: the rails. You can mount a turret on the top of a rail platform, and then you’ll be able to drag it along the rail, maximizing the range f your weapon.
This game has excellent graphics and it’s challenging enough. I wouldn’t say it’s a difficult game (then again, I still haven’t played it all the way), but it’ll get you thinking strategics soon enough.
There are lots of different types of weapons available to you, and as always, a few upgrades you can perform, if you have the resources.

In this new update (the one that got free) it is also included a Christmas theme, that you can check on the video below.
This game is fun and we recommend it, as it is universal and free for a limited time!
Crazy Bomber
Do you remember Bomberman?

I sure do, and I do remember the countless hours I spent in front of a green monochrome screen playing it.
As it seems, this is all about to be repeated. Blame Shanghai JoyTouch Network Technology and their awesome game Crazy Bomber, available for free today on the AppStore.

The concept is the same: drop bombs in strategic places in order to kill enemies, open paths or get power ups.
The blast radius will depend on your power ups, also as the number of bombs you can plant at the same time. The blast of one bomb will trigger the other bomb, if it is in range. If you’re familiar with Bomberman, you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Your objective is to get to the portal, after killing your enemies.

Of course it has a few differences from the original. It has more challenges and things you can do. There are bosses and, of course, there is a portal to go to that will take you to the next level.
The controls are the traditional dual pad, but I found it a bit unresponsive in a couple of situations, so it needs a little getting used to, at first.
The game has a multiplayer mode, but it must be unlocked first playing the solo mode, so an odd feature there.

You can play with any of four characters presented above: a vampire, a zombie, a wizard or a knight.
This game is fun, definitely an improve from Bomberman (duh), and it’s free on the AppStore for a limited time.
Epic War TD Pro
Since we’re talking about tower defense games, take a look at the Epic War TD Pro by AMT Games.
We’ve talked before about the Epic War TD edition, and today the Pro version of it is available for free. Can’t complain, right?

You know the drill. Stop the invading enemies on their tracks by setting up defense systems.
Use your resources carefully and make each turret count.
This game has excellent graphics and a nice learning curve.

This is one of the goriest tower defense games I’ve ever played, so expect blood and machinery parts. The gore factor can be turned off in the options, but you won’t do it. I can feel it.
The game is free for a limited time in its two versions, for iPhone and iPad.
Download it, install it, have fun.
Sentinel 3: Homeworld
We’ve already covered the great Sentinel saga games (Mars Defense and Earth Defense), so today is only fair that we talk about the third one, which is free for a limited time on the AppStore.
Sentinel 3: Homeworld by Origin8 is “more of the same”, which means it’s just awesome.

This time the chaos is at the alien’s doorsteps and you, as always, must deliver hell.
ET went home and you are on his six.
If you missed the previous games of the Sentinel family, my heart weeps for you, and here’s how the tower defense genre works:

Your objective is to stop the incoming enemy hordes by building turrets in their path.
Each turret has strong and weak points.
Some are damage towers, others are meant to slow down the hostiles.
Each tower costs cash, and you must use it wisely. Sometimes it’s better to upgrade a tower than to buy a new one. Upgrade a lot.
Also, you are able to customize turrets at each level, to improve the carnage.

Also, you have a few more aids, such as orbital weapons and abilities at your disposal.
Be clever, learn from your mistakes, and whatever you do, don’t push the…
This game is universal and you can install it for free from the AppStore. Of course, it’s for a limited time.
