When it comes to board games, I think we all can agree that Monopoly takes the grand prize.
I’ve lost count of how many hours I spent playing this game with friends and family. I could never cheat, I’m terrible at cheating and people would always catch me red-handed. Damn you, vigilant eyes!
MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition by EA Swiss Sarl brings back the game, and this time cheating is back! It has a “sleight of hand” option, that you can turn on, to make things interesting. Yay for second chances!
This game is beautifully put together, with great graphics (I know, it’s weird saying “great graphics” for a board game, but once you open it, you’ll see what I’m saying) and animations.
If you were born last week and aren’t familiar with the game, here goes the general gist of it:
You’ll be given some amount of money and a piece to play with. You can choose from a soccer ball, a taxi cab, an easter island statue, nesting dolls, a baseball glove, a windmill, a penguin or a sumo wrestler.
You’ll have at least one opponent, but it goes up to 4 players (3 opponents).
The board is made of properties and special spots, that will help you or get in your way. It’s a game of chance, after all.
Whenever you roll the dice, if you land on a property owned by the bank, you may buy it. If another player owns it, you’ll pay them a tax. The purpose of the game is to get rich and lead all others into bankruptcy. Capitalism, my friends!
In this version of Monopoly, the board scenario is the whole world. You’ll “buy” world cities, because that’s how rich you are. Feels good, right?
The game has a pretty good tutorial, covering all aspects of this wonderful game.
You can play against 3 other humans (even better on iPad), AI, or just a mix (2 Humans vs 2 AI, for example).
You can play via WiFi or Pass N’ Play (just pass the device around).
Take a look at the video with some iPad gameplay, and download it. It is imperative that you grab this opportunity!
This game is free for a limited time!
